Biomass: Past Work and Downloads

Below is a selection of publications that may be of interest when considering your own biomass projects:
London Biomass Guide

The London Biomass Guide was produced by CEN for the London Energy Partnership in 2007 and updated in 2008. BioRegional and SEWF also contributed material during the development of the guide.

The guide covers all aspects of how to undertake a biomass project from deciding whether a site is suitable and whether a project is likely to be economically feasible, to meeting legislation, choosing the fuel, delivery method, boiler type and contractual arrangement.
Woodfuel Financial Viability Tool This Excel based tool was developed as part of the work undertaken in South Hampshire for Hampshire County Council. It provides a means for developers, housing associations and others looking at biomass as a possibility for their building, to undertake a preliminary financial assessment of the project. The tool has a user input page to receive building and occupant information and then uses basic assumptions to calculate capital and running costs and the Net Present Value. Assumptions are accessible and can be updated to match your particular situation.
Woodfuel: A technical study for South Hampshire Hampshire County Council commissioned CEN to undertake a technical study of woodfuel within the South Hampshire region. The purpose of the South Hampshire Sub Region (SHSR) study was to simultaneously quantify supply and demand potential and to develop a strategy for ensuring the effective development of both sides of the industry, tying the most significant areas into high potential 'hotspots' for accelerated growth. The study provided strategic recommendations for the County Council and other partners to maximise market growth and benefit to Hampshire.
Biomass Data Collection Sheet If you are considering biomass for an existing building please complete this form and return to CEN (by email or fax). This form asks specific questions about your building and energy requirements, to enable us to provide more accurate and relevant information in any further studies or services undertaken. If you are considering biomass for a new development please contact CEN directly.
